Scar Camouflage FAQs

  • • Is scar camouflage tattooing safe?
Yes, scar camouflage is safe when performed by a trained specialist. Our artists are specifically trained to work with delicate post-surgery skin and scar tissue, using techniques that minimize trauma. However, as with any procedure, there are minimal risks (e.g., allergic reaction, infection). We discuss all potential sensitivities and review your medical history during your consultation.

  • • How do I know if scar camouflage is right for me?
All treatments begin with an individualized consultation to assess candidacy. To be a candidate, your scar or stretch mark must meet these criteria:

  • Age: The scar must be at least 2 years old (fully matured).

  • Texture: The scar must be flat. Raised scars are not candidates.

  • Color: The scar must be lighter than the surrounding skin. (We cannot tattoo over dark hyperpigmentation).

  • • Does this work on keloid scars?
No. We cannot work on keloid scars. Tattooing over active keloids can stimulate further growth and setback healing.

  • Hypertrophic Scars: If your scar is raised but not diagnosed as a keloid, it may be a hypertrophic scar that could flatten over time. Once fully flat and matured (2+ years), it may become a candidate. If you are unsure, contact us for an assessment.

  • • What does scar camouflage cost?
Scar camouflage is a delicate, multi-session process involving layers of light pigment washes. Because every scar is unique, pricing is customized after your consultation.

  • • Quote Basis: Quotes are provided based on the size, complexity, and number of sessions required.

  • • Billing: Pricing will be quoted per session

  • • Sessions: Multiple sessions are often required to build color gradually ("less is more") for the most natural result.

3D Nipple + Areola FAQs

  • • How DO I prepare for my 3d Nipple Areola reconstruction procedure? Clients must have written go-ahead from their surgeon and be at least 6 months to 1 year post-op to proceed with 3-D areola reconstruction.  This allows for ample healing time required, breast settlement and for the required scar maturation to have taken place.  Please come to your appointment with clean skin / no lotion or skincare products.

  • • Does My Insurance Cover This? As the 3-D areola procedure  is considered the final stage of reconstruction for breast cancer patients, many insurances reimburse for this procedure. Sigil Aesthetics can provide you with the necessary documentation if required. Please inquire with your insurance beforehand to check coverage.

  • • How long will my areola tattoos last? 3D areola tattooing is considered a permanent body tattoo. Clients may experience some lightening over time and scar tissue can sometimes lend to difficulty retaining pigment, but the majority of our clients experience optimal results with their first procedure. We use pigments specifically formulated for this type of work and we suggest a follow up session to ensure optimal results.

  • • Will the process be painful? Clients who have undergone a mastectomy often experience a loss of feeling in the area due to nerve damage, tissue removal and trauma to the skin via scar tissue. Most clients feel only mild discomfort if any at all.  We do offer topical anesthetics to those with sensitivities if required and do our best to observe any pain thresholds to ensure comfort during your procedure. Often times clients fall asleep!

  • • Can I get my tattoos while Im pregnant or nursing? Unfortunately, no. We do not tattoo pregnant or nursing people as a safety precaution.

  • • Is 3D Areola Tattooing Safe? Yes- 3D areola tattooing is safe, but as with any procedure, there are risks, although minimal.   Please discuss with your artist any potential allergies or sensitivities.  Our artists have been trained to work specifically with delicate post-surgery skin, scar tissue, and take every care imaginable to avoid any additional trauma or damage to the skin. If you have specific concerns or questions, please bring them up for discussion- we want you to be at ease and informed.

Lip Blush & Lip Neutralization FAQs

  • • How do I prepare for my Lip Blush or Lip Neutralization appointment?

  • Photos: Send reference photos for your desired shape and color after booking.

  • Medications: Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) for 24 hours before.

  • Cold Sores: If prone to cold sores, begin antiviral medication (e.g., Valtrex) 3 days prior. We cannot treat active cold sores.

  • Skin Prep: Keep lips hydrated. Gently exfoliate with a sugar scrub 1–2 days before.

  • Medical Conditions: If you are diabetic, on blood thinners, or have taken Accutane, consult your doctor. You must wait at least one year after Accutane.

  • Sun Exposure: Avoid sun and tanning beds for 30 days before and after.

  • Healing Time: Allow at least 14 days for healing before a vacation.

  • Consultation: A consultation is required. Read our full [Booking Policy].

  • • How long will Lip Blush or Lip Neutralization last, and how many sessions are required?

  • Lip Blush: Typically requires 2 sessions.
Results last 1–2 years before a refresher is recommended.

  • Lip Neutralization: A corrective process for melanin-rich lips, typically requiring 3–4 sessions (sometimes more) spaced 14–18 weeks apart.
This gradual layering ensures a stable, even tone.• Can I get Lip Blush if I’ve had lip filler? Yes. Please wait 3 weeks between filler and lip blush appointments to prevent filler migration.

  • • Can I get Lip Blush or Lip Neutralization if I have a scar? Yes, tattooing can help blend discoloration from scars. However, it will not remove the scar itself. Scarred skin holds pigment differently, often requiring more time and attention for consistent color.

  • • Why does Lip Neutralization require more sessions than Lip Blush? Lip Blush adds color to a healthy canvas. Lip Neutralization is a corrective procedure that first uses warm pigments (e.g., orange, coral) to neutralize dark, cool undertones caused by melanin. This foundational step is essential before adding a final blush color. The process must be gradual to prevent pigment instability and ensure your skin heals properly.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) FAQs

  • • Do I need to be bald or shave my head for SMP/What about my hair length?

  • For Bald or Shaved Heads: SMP creates the look of a natural buzz cut. To maintain the illusion, you must keep your hair clipped short (e.g., a 0.5-grade or stubble).

  • For Long Hair: SMP can add density to thinning areas by placing pigment between your existing hair to reduce scalp visibility.
    This is called Density SMP.

  • Critical Advice: If you have a receding hairline and plan to extend your hairline with SMP, you must be prepared to keep your hair short long-term.
Growing it out will break the illusion. For Density SMP, your existing hair must be long enough to blend with the pigment.

  • • How long does the SMP process take?
The full treatment typically requires 3 or more sessions, each spaced 10 to 14 days apart.

Session Length: Each session lasts 3 to 4 hours.

Results: You will see an improvement after the first session, with the final, optimal result building gradually over the course of all sessions. This layering prevents a "solid blob" look and ensures a natural, micro-dot appearance.

  • What does SMP cost?
Pricing is customized based on the size of the treatment area and number of sessions required.

While a full procedure typically starts at $1,500, we provide an accurate quote after a consultation.

    • Get a Quote: You can send photos using our online form or arrange an in-person consultation for a detailed assessment.

It’s the premier version of procedures commonly called “Semi Permanent Foundation” ours is the only process licensed by the KFDA (Korean Food & Drug Admin) - a leader in global best practices for the beauty industry.

    • Can I get this somewhere besides my face? BB Glow is intended and best suited for application on the face. Occasionally clients inquire about using this same process for other areas or to address scars effectively. In such instances, we recommend our Scar Camouflage treatment.

    • Why Do I need More Than One Session? The serums, pigments and microneedling produce lasting results with the first application. Best results are achieved after the third session, as it’s a cumulative process.
